YouTube How to start – basic information



  • Google owns YouTube

  • We are going to set up a YouTube channel to help promote your blog

  • A YouTube channel is a place to call home for all our blog videos

  • A YouTube channel is free

  • If someone “subscribes” to your YouTube channel, they will be notified when you post a new video.


YouTube How to start – Create a YouTube channel



  1. Go to http://www.youtube.com/

  2. Click Sign in in the top right corner of the screen.

  3. type in your Google account name and password Sign in

    • If you don’t have a Google account, you will need to click Create an account in the top right part of the screen and get a Google account first.



  4. Once you are signed in, click the arrow by your name in the top right corner and choose My Chanel

  5. A Screen comes up that is labeled “Set up your channel on YouTube”.

  6. Your name appears as it is on the Google account. I signed up years ago, so it is my personal name. So, I have to click To Use a Business or other name click here

  7. You will get another screen. Type in a user name (You are limited to the number of characters you can use; I typed Daily Technology).

    • Click Check Availability.

    • If the name is already taken, YouTube will give you a message and you can then try another name.



  8. Once you have a name, type in your birthdate and gender and click Create Channel

  9. My YouTube address will be http://www.youtube.com/user/PedrVO. Your address will be the same except the last part will be your user name.


 

YouTube How to start – Tweak some basic settings



  1. You will get a new screen. Mouse over the icon for your picture and you will see a pencil. Click on the pencil. You can add a picture if you want. But it has to be small in size; it can only be up to 1 MB.

  2. Go to the top right. Click the arrow by your name. Choose Settings

  3. Overview Screen. Choose if you are or if you are not going to allow advertisements. Save

  4. Click Privacy on the left: Choose Let people find my channel on YouTube if they have my email address

  5. You have now tweaked some of the settings.
