Avatar: Get Your Picture Out There and Keep Branding

Images-Topic 5 Avatar. We will cover some basic information and then continue with steps to get you an Avatar.

Avatar: Huh? What is it?

It is an icon image that represents you online. When you comment on the internet, your “Avatar” (your image) will then appear by your name. It is one more thing that helps to brand you and your blog.  If you look at my Author Box at the bottom of this page, you will see my Avatar.

Avatar: Continue your branding

We need to have a personal brand and the sooner the better.  When someone comments on your web site and you respond, it will be better to have your picture instead of the generic icon. When you comment on another website, it will be better to have your picture there.  I have shown two avatars: generic icon . . . picture.

Let’s get one … and, it is free!

  1. Click here to go to the Gravatar (Globally Recognized Avatar) website.

    • You will create a profile.  This will attach your image to your e-mail address.

    • You can even add another e-mail address.

    • So, if you then go to a Gravatar enabled site and respond to a comment with one of your registered e-mails, your registered picture will appear.

  2. Type in one of your e-mails.

  3. Click Get your Gravatar.

  4. Register with a user name and password.

  5. You will get an e-mail confirmation.  Click on it.

  6. Add your picture.

  7. You will have a chance to crop.  Finish.

  8. If you want to add another e-mail, click Add a new e-mail.

  9. Type in another e-mail.

  10. You will get an e-mail confirmation.  Click on it.

  11. Finish the process. DONE!

  12. Check it out: go to another website and respond with a comment. You should see your Avatar.

Avatar: Extra

This is not something you have to do right now; but it will be good to add information to your Avatar profile. Then, if you comment on another website and someone clicks on your avatar, they will be taken to your profile where they will see this additional information.

  1. Click on your picture in the top right corner.

  2. Click Edit my Profile.

  3. You can change the Display Name. It actually showed my log in name and I changed it to Barb Brady.

  4. added information in the “About Me” section.

  5. On the left side of the screen, click Verified Services.

    • You can add links to Facebook, YouTube, etc.

  6. On the left side of the screen, click My Links.

    • You can add your website’s URL.

  7. Save profile.

Leave some comments YOU have on other branding ideas.
