Welcome to Blog Section #11 Google – Topic 1 Sign up Google Analytics!  Before we can use some different Google tools to help our blog, we first need to sign up. To make the next blogs go easier, we are going to use the first two blogs in this Section to sign up with different Google tools.

Sign up Google – first a basic Google Account


First, you need a Google account.  So, if you do not have a Google account, let’s go get one.  You need this one first before you can get the other ones.

  1. Go to Google: https://www.google.com/

  2. Click sign in.

  3. On the top right part of the screen, click Sign up.

  4. Just continue through the pages and type in your information.  You will create a user name and password.

  5. You have a Google account.


Sign up Google Analytics – Phase 1


Now, we are going to sign up for Google Analytics. This will be (3) individual phases.

  1.  Go to http://www.google.com/analytics/

  2. Sign in using your Google user name (Google e-mail) and password.

  3. On the very far right side click Sign up.

  4. Click Website.

  5. Fill in all the information under Setting Up Your Web Property.

    1. Account Name: you can type your personal name (not your website name).

    2. Read the three optional check boxes and uncheck what you don’t want.



  6. Click Get Tracking ID.

  7. You need to accept Terms of Service.

  8. A new screen now appears and you are landed specifically on the tracking tab.

  9. You will see a box of code.  Copy it by Ctrl C.

  10. Sign out.

  11. Keep going to the next phase for Google Analytics.


Sign up Google Analytics – Phase 2 required in WordPress


The requirement is to copy the code that you just copied in step 9 above to WordPress.  These instructions are for the Genesis/Prose theme.  If you have a different theme, the underlying steps are still relevant.

  1. Login to WordPress.

  2. Left side of screen Genesis  Theme Settings.

  3. Scroll towards the bottom to “Header and Footer scripts“.

  4. Paste the code in this section.

  5. Save Settings.


Sign up Google Analytics – Phase 3 verify it worked



  1. Go back to Google Analytics: http://www.google.com/analytics/

  2. Sign in using your Google user name (Google e-mail) and password.

  3. On the type right corner, click Admin.

    • Since we only have one account at this point, it will come up to the correct page.



  4. You may be on the Tracking tab, if not click on the Tracking tab.

  5. Status should now say  Status: Tracking installed.

  6. You now have a Google Analytics account!
