You’re the Author: Customize the Author Page

Guest Author-Topic 1 Customize the Author Page.  Back in Simple Author Box, we worked on the Author Box.  The Genesis framework / Prose theme helped us out a lot. It was pretty straight forward. Today we are going to do a little more with the settings to customize the Author Page.



What is an Author Page and How do I even see it?


An author page is a page dedicated to all the posts of an Author. If you are the only one writing posts on your website, you are it. So, if you pulled up the Author Page for you, it would be the same as pulling up the main blog page that shows all the blog posts. But if you ever have a guest author, then each Author page would show only the blog posts of  that particular author.

We are going to start simple today and introduce you to your Author Page. I’ll first walk you through my Author page as an example.

  1. Look at the top of this blog post. Under the Post name you should see “By Barb Brady”.

    • Your line may show more or less.  Remember we used a plugin in WordPress Plugin Genesis? I used the plugin to edit this line.



  2. Click on Barb Brady.

  3. There is my Author Page.


Now go through the same steps on your website and find your Author Page.

How can I Edit my Author Page?


Some of this will look familiar because we worked on an Author box in Simple Author Box.

  1. In WordPress, go to the left side of the screen  Users    Your Profile.

  2. In Simple Author Box we filled out the “Name” section.

  3. In Simple Author Box we filled out the “About Yourself” section.

  4. Now scrolls to the “WordPress SEO” section:

    1. Type in a Title to use for Author page.

    2. Type in a Meta description to use for Author page.



  5. Now go to the “Author Archive Settings” section.

    1. Type in a Custom Archive Headline. This will show up on your Author Page.

    2. Type in a Custom Description Text if you want a description to show up on your Author Page.

    3. Author  Box: in Simple Author Box we checked to Enable Author Box on this User’s Posts. Now, we are also going to check to Enable Author Box on this User’s Archives.



  6. At the bottom of the screen click Update Profile.
