Simple Author Box – no coding! Easy steps

How to Blog Even Better-Topic 10 Simple Author Box. There are many articles about creating an Author Box, but so many of them have coding instructions. But for us non-techy types, there is a way. Keep reading.

What is an Author Box?

An Author Box is a box, usually at the bottom of a post, that gives information about the author of the post. It gives information about You!  It shows a bio and sometimes shows other information like posts by the author or links to social media.  It  is one more item that makes your blog look professional.

This is what my Author Box looks like:

How To put an Author Box on your Blog

We are going to put a simple Author Box at the end of each blog post.

  1. In WordPress, go to the left side of the screen  Users    Your Profile

  2. Scroll down to the “Name” section.

    • Type in a First Name and Last Name.

    • Display name publicly as:  choose how you want your name to appear in your Author box.

  3. Scroll down to the “About Yourself” section.

    • Type in information about yourself that you want shown in the Biographical box.

  4. Scroll down to “Author Archive Settings” section.

    • Next to Author Box: check Enable Author Box on this User’s Posts.

  5. At the bottom of the screen click Update Profile.

Now look at one of your blog posts. At the very bottom you should see your Author Box.

Note: My Author Box came up with my picture automatically because I have set up an Avatar with Gravatar.

P.S. If you want an internal link in your Author Box

In the Biographical section, there was just a plain box for you to type in your information. There was no icon for “links”–like the one that is available to us when we create blog posts.  But I did create a link; if you look at my bio box, you will notice that I have an internal link at the end.  It says:   . . . and you can then chime in so we can help each other. Join me!

A way to create an internal link in your Author Box WITHOUT coding:

  1. Go to a blank page.

  2. Type your bio information, with bold, links etc.

    • Do remember to keep it relatively short

  3. If you look at the right top of your edit screen, you will see you are on the Visual tab.

  4. Click the Text tab.  This is tab that shows the actual coding.

  5. Highlight and Copy the html code by pressing Ctrl C.

  6. Paste this code in the bio box (Step #3 in previous section) by pressing Ctrl V.

Leave a comment and show us your Author Box!
