First Step SEO: Keyword Say it again: Keyword!

Topic 3 Keyword.  This is the important start to SEO. Actually, when I think SEO, the next word I think of is keyword.



Think about a keyword


You are at your computer and getting ready to start your post. Now, ask yourself: what is the main word(s) describing your post–if you were to Google, what word or words would you type in the search engine? What you are really asking is: what is the keyword (s) of the post.

Now, let’s research your keyword choice . . . is it as popular as you want it to be?

Important: Research the keyword


We can go to a website that Google has created to research keywords.

  1. https://adwords.google.com/keywordtool

  2. Type in the keyword or words you just thought out. Click Search.

  3. Ideally your keyword/words will have high volume and low competition. Oh . . . always not possible, but it is something to try for.

  4. Keep trying different keywords.

  5. Another idea: go to a website you like and type in the website URL and see what Google thinks their keywords are.


SEO: Going forward (and backward) with keyword in mind


As we continue with this SEO Blogging Section, we are going to learn more about how to look at our blogs from an SEO perspective. Up until now, we have been writing good content and learning how to add images, banners, and many visual extras. But now we are working on our blog in a very important way . . . but a way that may not give us instant gratification.  When we add a colored box, we see it immediately. When we add keywords in an additional location on our blog, it’s not as exciting. But even though we may not have a “Wow” moment, working on our blog from an SEO perspective is important: we need Google and the other search engines for traffic. So, once you continue through this SEO series:

  1. You can go forward and create posts AND implement the SEO strategies.

  2. But remember . . . also go back to your previous blogs and implement the SEO strategies.
